Mistakes & Hiccups

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing

John Powell

Throughout writing these newsletters, I’ve always been proud of the fact that I haven’t had a spelling error.

Each time, I would proofread and make sure every word was perfect.

However, I’m not sure if you noticed, but last week there was one error I didn’t catch.

I repeated the same mistake countless times without even realizing it—until it was already sent out to you.

I dwelled on that mistake for the rest of the day, annoyed at myself for missing it.

But then my mindset shifted. Overall, I’d say the newsletter was pretty damn good.

Yet, as human beings, we tend to lose sight of the 99% that went well and obsess over the 1% that didn’t.

Mistakes and hiccups are signs that we care deeply about what we’re doing.

They show us where we can grow, and how we can rise above challenges.

Mistakes are just lessons on the way to the destination we’re so eager to reach.

And the truth is, we wouldn’t be able to fully appreciate that destination if we didn’t earn the right to get there.

So next time you fall down or fail at something you care about, remind yourself: these are all opportunities to prove you deserve what you’re fighting for.
