You’re not stuck

There will be times when you’re going about your life and, suddenly, you have a moment of self-reflection where it feels like you’ve been in the same place for days, months, or even years.

You try to look back and search for defining moments of change, but nothing really jumps out at you.

In my opinion, that’s because when we think of change, we often think of big differences in our lives — like having a baby, getting a raise, or moving to a new town.

These are massive events that leave a clear stamp in time. They're easy to look back on and use as reference points to measure where we’ve been and how far we’ve come.

But those big moments don’t come around often.

So, we start counting the days since those milestones. And as the number grows, we begin to believe we haven’t changed as a person since then.

But that’s simply not true.

Every single day, we’re either improving or learning.

We improve our health through exercise, taking vitamins, or simply going for a walk.
We learn from our failures — whether it’s a misstep at work, a difficult conversation with a friend, or a health scare.

We’re constantly moving toward a different version of ourselves.

Even if you’re not at the point where you exercise or eat well yet, mindset shifts are steps toward improvement.

It might take weeks for you to look at yourself and make that decision to change — but mental steps are still movement.

You may not realize it, but you are always headed in some direction. And while that path could be unhealthy, it could also be a positive one — the one that finally leads you to make the switch.

So, don’t beat yourself up over feeling “stuck.” As long as you keep viewing life as a journey toward a destination you get to choose, you’re on the right path.

Small decisions and steps add up quickly.

And one day, you’ll look back at yourself with pride and gratitude for how far you’ve come.
